4 Keys of Tri Racing - the mental challenges

Race day is about execution, not fitness.
  • Winning hilltops or a fast pace out of T2 - NOT THE FOCUS
  • Patience and discipline
  • Racing is like a puzzle.
Nothing matter until mile 18.
  • No such thing as a good bike, followed by a bad run.
  • Good race execution = not slowing down at mile 18.
  • Ride your should pace, not your could.
  • Resist the urge to do what everyone else is doing.
Place your head and fitness inside the box.
  • Inside box = what you can control
  • Outside box = outcomes and actions of others
  • Keep your box as big as you can, for as long as you can.
  • Let go of what you can not control.
Prepare your ONE THING.

  • The end of the run is 70% mental.
  • Be ready for your mind and body to have a conflict. Your body is one helluva negotiator at mile 18, so your mind needs to be ready with a rebuttal.
  • Know the reason you are out there doing this - your ONE THING.
